There’s nothing more Christmas than fruit mince pies and this December you’ll be spoilt for choice at Coles! Served warm with custard or cream, these little shortcrust pastry cases full of spicy dried fruit are traditional favourite. Like so many traditional baked goods, mince pies started out as savoury treats made with minced meat. The meat was often blended with chopped liver, boiled eggs, fruit and spices and the pies fried or baked. By the 17th century, though, minced dried fruit, spices and sometimes nuts made up the filling. And don’t worry if you overindulge because eating a mince pie each day of the “12 days of Christmas” is thought to bring good luck during the coming year!
